EMDR treatment of your trauma by Psychologist Amsterdam

A trauma can be treated well, for example with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). Through eye movements you are simultaneously busy with the present and the past. And that appears to be a very successful technique to get a stuck processing of traumatic experiences back on track. Without extensive conversations and in a relatively short time. After an intense first session, we get rid of the traumatic moment with positive steps.

There are major differences in how people deal with their complaints. Therefore every treatment plan is based on personal needs and possibilities.

Psychologists specialized in EMDR therapy:

How does trauma occur?
A trauma starts with a life-threatening or shocking event. Something that you have experienced or have seen. It can be a single event such as a car accident, robbery or rape, but also consecutive experiences such as sexual abuse, physical violence or mental abuse. The traumatic event has evoked feelings of intense fear, helplessness or horror in you.

As a result, you can develop complaints. Sometimes they disappear automatically, but not with everyone. Nightmares and fearful images of the shocking event keep coming back and do not fade. You may also be confronted with a form of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). You can then suffer from shock or avoidance reactions, panic attacks, mood swings or problems with concentrating.
