About psychologist Sarah D’Ghoughi
My style
Clients often describe my style as clear and empathetic, with room for perspective and humor. I listen attentively, ask specific questions, and am not afraid to hold up a mirror to you when necessary. Change becomes possible when approached with attention and care. In my work, I believe it is important to combine engagement with analytical sharpness.
For me, therapy is an equal partnership. Together, we bring structure to what can sometimes feel confusing or overwhelming. We work together purposefully, focusing on concrete steps and exploring the deeper layers beneath them. I always tailor my approach to your tempo and needs. Safety and trust form the foundation for lasting change.
Background
My interest in human behavior and development began early. I studied Pedagogy at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and then Clinical Neuropsychology at Leiden University. I wanted to understand how development works, how the brain develops throughout the life cycle, and how this influences emotions, choices, and patterns.
In my work, I have gained experience in both diagnostics, for example, in cognitive changes or ADHD, and in the treatment of a wide range of issues within Basic Mental Health Care (B-GGZ), such as trauma, anxiety, worry, depression, and self-image issues.
Having grown up surrounded by different cultures and languages, I recognize the complexity of moving between these worlds and its impact on identity and self-image. In addition to Dutch, I speak fluent English and Moroccan Arabic.
Methods
In my treatments, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). Where appropriate, I incorporate techniques from positive psychology. This means we look not only at what is not going well, but also at what gives you strength, where your resilience lies, and what is meaningful to you. The treatment is carefully tailored to the individual and your needs.
About me
I was born and raised in Amsterdam and still live here happily, together with my partner. For me, the city is a place where so much comes together; it is dynamic and at the same time, every neighborhood feels like a small village where you know your neighbors well. What has always attracted me here is the diversity: generations, cultures, and stories coexisting.
Besides my work as a psychologist, I enjoy culture, films, reading, TV series, and making beautiful trips. I enjoy sports, like yoga or pilates, and the occasional spinning class. Finally, I love walking through the city or in nature.
