About clinical psychologist Ellen van den Eijnden

My name is Ellen van den Eijnden and I enjoy working as a clinical psychologist at Taytelbaum Psychologen Amsterdam. In addition to my work here as a clinical psychologist, I teach psychology, I am a diagnostics supervisor and I am involved in national developments in the field of psychodiagnostics within mental health care.

As a therapist I have experience in treating various issues, such as (social) fears, worrying, depression, insecurity, compulsion, intimacy problems. I have a special interest and experience with problems as a result of major events (both recent and from childhood) and personality problems. English-speaking clients can also contact me.

Psychological issues

Psychological issues are caused by a combination of various factors. Your predisposition plays a role, for example whether you are a naturally more introverted or extroverted person, and whether you are impulsive or inhibited. In addition, the way you were raised and grew up influences how you develop, and of course which important events you have experienced in the course of your life. Finally, there is a role for the way in which you have learned to deal with all those things.

The conversations

In the first conversations we will get to know each other and identify the various factors. We will discuss what you would like to achieve and how we can approach it. From education and practice I have knowledge and experience with various forms of treatment and techniques, such as psychodynamic psychotherapy, schema therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, EMDR, mindfulness and Acceptance & Committment Therapy (ACT). My main way of looking at problems and working, however, comes from Affect Phobia Therapy (AFT).

Based on what your problems are and what your change goals are, we will determine whether a more structured or more insightful approach is appropriate. I will also estimate how long the treatment will take approximately, with my motto being ‘short if possible, longer if necessary’.

As a therapist

As a therapist I am sincere, transparent and interested. I like to keep asking questions until we can both understand what is going on, what feelings and thoughts you have and what they can be related to. I also think humor and lightness are important ingredients from time to time. I will also pay attention to physical signals in your body. Are you suddenly warm? Do you feel tension in your arms? Is your breathing getting shallower? Or do you find yourself clenching your jaws? These are important signals that can help you discover which feelings are hidden. We can use those signals to help you experience and express those feelings; if the signals indicate tension or fear, we will try to regulate that.

BIG-registration Ellen van den Eijnden: 49912724625 (clinical psychologist) and 69912724616 (psychotherapist).
