About relationship issues
Are you no longer able to solve your fightings? Are there always minor annoyances that cause stress? Do you find it difficult to talk about important topics? Does your partner increasingly criticize you?
Problems, irritations, quarrels and misunderstandings occur in every relationship. Very normal and in many cases the partners can solve it together. However, it becomes problematic when the arguments and irritations continue, or when you get further and further apart. You are both uncomfortable and you are unable to turn the tide.
Possible causes of relationship issues
Relationship issues can be caused or made worse by many things. Sometimes it is a result of a life phase, which can cause relationship issues. For example, if you start a family, during puberty of the children, when the children leave home, or when one or both partners retire.
Relationship issues can also be caused by a high-impact event, stress, financial problems, illness, cheating, etc. And sometimes there is a long-lasting, dormant feeling of dissatisfaction that causes you to grow apart.
If it becomes clear during relationship therapy that one of the partners has psychological problems, individual treatment can offer a solution in addition to relationship therapy.
How do you recognize relationship issues?
The signs of relationship issues can include:
- You feel alone, even when you are together.
- Your partner does not seem to understand what you are saying.
- You no longer trust each other.
- You feel that what you do is never good enough.
- The quarrels are more and more frequent and are getting worse.
- You don’t feel accepted by your partner.
- You become more and more irritated and blame each other more and more.
- You suffer from gloomy moods or other psychological issues.
- You have different expectations of each other.
Don’t wait too long to seek help
When there are problems in a relationship, people often wait a long time before starting relationship therapy. Partners have already tried everything to improve the relationship. Relationship therapy is then seen as a last chance to solve the problems.
It is certainly not too late, but it is better to seek help as soon as possible if there is a relationship problem. The longer you wait, the more difficult the problem can be solved and the duration of the therapy can increase.
It may also become clear during relationship therapy that after all you choose to separate. In that case, a relationship therapist can help you to end your relationship as smoothly and respectfully as possible.
Forms of relationship therapy
We will analyse together what is causing your problems. We mainly work with Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and system therapy, or a combination of both forms of therapy. These are very successful ways to get you through a difficult time in your relationship.
