About body-oriented therapy

Body-oriented therapy is based on a holistic approach. This means that the body symbolizes the whole person, body and mind form a whole. Especially in this time, when society demands a lot of our cognitive ability, it is important to pay attention to our body.

We tend to focus on what our mind tells us, but we often forget our body. It is precisely in our body we store important information about the positive and negative experiences in the past.

By becoming aware of your own physical sensations and the feelings that includes them, you can increase body awareness and strengthen your sense of identity and autonomy. Body-oriented therapy contributes to gaining new insights, creating new possibilities. It can be a good alternative to regular individual conversations with a psychologist. Together with the psychologist / therapist you can work on letting go of old patterns and at the same time learn to understand experiences from the past. Hidden abilities and qualities are also examined, in order that these can become more important.

Method

In body-oriented therapy, in addition to conversations, massage techniques, body-oriented exercises, breathing techniques and mindfulness exercises are used. By not only seeing, hearing and understanding choices and insights, but also feeling and experiencing them physically, you are better able to integrate these choices and insights into your daily life.

For whom?

Body-oriented therapy can be used for problems in the physical, mental or emotional area. Par example:

  • physical problems and tensions,
  • fatigue,
  • anxious or depressive symptoms,
  • psychosomatic or somatoform symptoms,
  • radical experiences that are not or insufficiently processed,
  • post-traumatic symptoms,
  • constantly getting stuck in problems at home, at work or in the (social) environment,
  • when talking had not helped or you cannot properly express your problems,
  • lack of self confidence.
