Rates and reimbursement

Please note:

As of January 1, 2022, a new funding for GGZ (Mental Health Care) will be introduced: the ‘zorgprestatiemodel’. This system change has consequences for the rates, the declarations and the deductible. More information about the new ‘zorgprestatiemodel’ can be found here on our website.

Rates as of January 1, 2021

Psychologen Amsterdam has no contracts with health insurance companies, but the treatments with our GZ psychologists can be reimbursed (55% – 100%) afterwards. This means that you first pay the bill yourself and then submit it to your health care provider.

1. Reimbursed care

Individual therapy, costs GZ psychologist

In accordance with the guidelines of the NZA (Nederlandse Zorgautoriteit), you can be classified according to your mental problems into the following ‘zorgzwaarteproducten’ / ‘performances’. The amount stated per performance is the maximum amount to be reimbursed. The amounts are exempt from VAT.

Short (approx. 4 sessions) € 522,13
Medium (approx. 7 sessions) € 885,01
Intensive (max. 11 sessions) € 1.434,96
Incomplete treatment process (max. 120 minutes) € 228,04

You advance an amount of € 125,– per session (of 45 minutes) and you may pay a remaining amount at the end.

After the end of your individual treatment process, you will receive the summary invoice from the treating psychologist and you can submit it to your health insurer. You can be eligible for full (‘restitutiepolis’) or partial (‘naturapolis’) reimbursement. Contact your health insurer for this. See Reimbursement to read what the conditions are for qualifying for this type of reimbursed care.

After the end of your individual treatment process, you will receive the summary invoice from the treating psychologist and you can submit it to your health insurance. You may be eligible for a full or a partially reimbursement. Please contact your health care provider for more information.

2. Non-reimbursed care

Individual therapy, costs (GZ) psychologist / therapist

If you are not eligible for reimbursed care, the rate below applies to individual therapy:

Onverzekerd product Consult (OVP / OZP (Uninsured product Consult) – approx. 45 minutes): € 114,–. A number of psychologists are planning a double intake session of 90 minutes and costs € 228,–. The practice assistant will inform you.
Each follow-up session takes 45 minutes and costs € 114,–.

If the treatment takes place by a psychologist or GZ psychologist, the rate is exempt from VAT. Most practitioners within the practice are (GZ) psychologists.

Only a small number of system-, relationship- and family therapists also receive clients for individual therapy. If treatment takes place by a therapist (not being a (GZ) psychologist), then we are obliged to charge 21% VAT.

System-, relationship- and family therapy, costs (GZ)psychologist / therapist

In contrast to individual therapy, system-, relationship- and family therapy are unfortunately not yet reimbursed by the health insurance company and are not yet exempt from VAT. We are therefore obliged to charge VAT.

The intake takes 75 minutes for most therapists and the costs are € 211,75 (incl. VAT). Afterwards you and the therapist discuss the possible follow-up process and the best way to plan the appointments. This means that follow-up appointments can take 45, 60, 75 or 90 minutes.

• 90 minutes: € 210,– (excl. VAT), € 254,10 (incl. VAT)
• 75 minutes: € 175,– (excl. VAT), € 211,75 (incl. VAT)
• 60 minutes: € 140,– (excl. VAT), € 169,40 (incl. VAT)
• 45 minutes: € 105,– (excl. VAT), € 127,05 (incl. VAT)

Individual coaching / business coaching

In contrast to individual therapy, coaching is unfortunately not reimbursed by the health insurance company and is not exempt from VAT. We are therefore obliged to charge VAT.

A coaching process consists of an intake interview of 1,5 hours. During the intake we discuss how the follow-up process will look like. This means that sessions of 45 minutes or 1,5 hours are scheduled for the follow-up process. The rate for a 45-minute session is € 125,– (excluding 21% VAT). The rate for a 1,5-hour session is € 250,– (excluding 21% VAT). If your employer would like to offer you this coaching process, we can prepare a plan together.

3. Pay and cancel

After the session you can pay the amount per pin. An appointment is not without obligation. If you are unable to come to an appointment, we would like you to cancel the appointment as soon as possible so that we can schedule another appointment. You can do this by e-mail up to 48 hours, 2 working days in advance. If you do not cancel the appointment in time or you do not appear, we are forced to charge the costs.

Reimbursement

What is Generalist Basic GGZ and Specialized GGZ?

As of 1 January 2014, GGZ (Mental Health Care) has been transformed into a system with a Generalist Basic GGZ (GB-GGZ) and a Specialized GGZ (S-GGZ).

A distinction is made between the degree of intensity of the problems and the required care. The treatment of mild to moderate, non-complex psychological problems takes place by a (GZ) psychologist or therapist in the GB-GGZ. You can think of issues such as stress, burnout, depression, trauma, panic attacks, etc.

If the psychological problems are more serious and more complex, the treatment will take place in Specialized GGZ. The S-GGZ is characterized by a high degree of complexity of the treatment, which requires specialized knowledge. Often the treatment will take place by a clinical psychologist or psychotherapist.

How does it work?

To be eligible for insured care from the GB-GGZ, you must meet a number of conditions:

  • You need a referral from your doctor.
  • There must be an appropriate diagnosis.
  • The practitioner must be registered in the BIG-register and must have a quality statute.

You bring the referral from your doctor with you when you first meet one of our (GZ) psychologists. After the intake, the practitioner draws up a treatment plan and will discuss this with you in the next session. An indication is also given of the required number of sessions (this number can be expanded during the mid-term evaluation if necessary). If you agree with the treatment plan, treatment will be started.

Since 2014, you no longer receive compensation per hour, but per time package. These packages are also called ‘zorgzwaarteproducten’ or ‘performances’ and are based on a separate patient profile. The ‘zorgzwaarteproducten / performances’ within the GB-GGZ are subdivided into the following categories (maximum NZA * rate):

Short (approx. 4 sessions) € 522,13
Medium (approx. 7 sessions) € 885,01
Intensive (max. 11 sessions) € 1.434,96
Incomplete treatment process (max. 120 minutes) € 228,04

* The rates have been set by the Nederlandse Zorgautoriteit (NZA) for 2021. The amounts are free of VAT.

Unfortunately, not all health insurers use the market-based rate set by the NZA. Health insurers increasingly use the average rate for which they have purchased care from contracted health care providers and call this the average contracted rate. The rates therefore differ per health insurer.

Incomplete treatment process

The practitioner must charge this performance in three situations:

  • The referrer refers the patient to a practitioner in the GB-GGZ, but the practitioner does not identify a DSM disorder.
  • It is concluded early (treatment commitment of a maximum of 120 minutes direct and indirect patient-related time) that the patient should be treated in Specialized GGZ.
  • Early (treatment of a maximum of 120 minutes of direct and indirect patient-related time), treatment is interrupted by the patient and / or practitioner (for example, because the patient prefers another practitioner).

System-, relationship- and family therapy

In contrast to individual therapy, system-, relationship- and family therapy are unfortunately not yet reimbursed by the health insurer.

In some situations, a partial reimbursement is possible if the therapist is affiliated with a professional association, which is recognized by your health insurer. For questions about this, you can contact the practice assistant.

Please note: rarely a health insurer will reimburse (partial) system-, relationship- and family therapy if you have a referral from your doctor and if the practitioner is registered in the BIG- register.
This form of reimbursed therapy is not possible with Psychologen Amsterdam.

Additionally insured

There are certain symptoms that may have a psychological character, but the treatment of these symptoms are not covered by the basic insurance. This is the case if you do not have an ‘appropriate’ diagnosis (we mention a number of examples in the Reimbursement check). Ask your health insurer for the complete list!
Reimbursement of this care is sometimes eligible via the additional health care insurance (alternative medicine or psychological care supplement). This also applies to the treatments with our non-GZ psychologists who are affiliated with alternative professional associations. You can contact us about this.

‘Restitutiepolis’ (restitution package) or ‘naturapolis’ (basic package)

The reimbursement for a ‘restitutiepolis’ is higher than for a ‘naturapolis’. For the exact reimbursement, it is best to contact your insurance company or look at this link: https://contractvrijepsycholoog.nl/vergoedingen-2021.

Deductibles

The 2021 health insurance has a compulsory deductible of € 385,–. This deductible also applies to psychological care, regardless of whether or not the practitioner has contracts with health insurers.

Not using your insurance

It is possible not to declare your sessions with your insurer. In that case we will use the rate that you find on our Rates page.

Children and reimbursement

Since 2015, mental health care for children has been outsourced to the municipalities. This means that if your child needs psychological care and you want to be reimbursed, he / she will be referred to a psychologist who is contracted by the municipality. The disadvantage of this is that there are often long waiting lists and privacy is not always guaranteed.

Psychologen Amsterdam does not have a contract with the municipality. The costs are entirely for the parents. In this way we guarantee complete privacy for your child.

New GGZ funding: the ‘Zorgprestatiemodel’

As of January 1, 2022, a new funding for Mental Health Care (GGZ) has been introduced: the ‘Zorgprestatiemodel’.

More information for clients can be found in this folder and also read our article Change in GGZ funding as of 1 January 2022.

From 2022, funding will no longer be based on a package, but on the actual number of consultations, the duration of the consultations and the type of consultation (diagnosis or treatment). In addition, there is no longer a standard rate per consultation, but each type of practitioner has its own rate. For example, the rate of a clinical psychologist will be higher than the rate of a GZ psychologist.

And finally, the rates are determined by the way in which the care is provided. The Zorgprestatiemodel calls this a ‘setting’. A setting is a combination of the required infrastructure and the use of various professions. It corrects for cost differences associated with the way care is provided. A total of eight settings have been formulated. For example, a consultation in a specialist institution is more expensive than a consultation by a healthcare professional with his own practice.

Psychologen Amsterdam works from two settings, namely:

  • Ambulatory quality statute section III – monodisciplinary
  • Ambulatory quality statute section III – multidisciplinary

Psychologen Amsterdam is an institution approved by the government (Ministry of Public Health) that provides mental health care (within the eight settings this stands for ‘Ambulatory quality charter section III’). In addition, our practice meets the quality criteria of both monodisciplinary and multidisciplinary care. Click here for an explanation of the difference between monodisciplinary and multidisciplinary.

Rates Zorgprestatiemodel as of January 1, 2022

The overviews below include the rates from 1 January 2022, as determined by the Nederlandse Zorgautoriteit (NZa).

The overview includes the rates for consultations that last 5, 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90 and 120 minutes.

The duration of the consultations will be discussed with the treating healthcare professional, but in general the consultations will last between 45 and 90 minutes.

In contrast to individual therapy, system-, relationship- and family therapy are unfortunately not yet reimbursed by the health insurance company and are not yet exempt from VAT. We are therefore obliged to charge VAT.

The intake takes 90 minutes for most therapists and the costs are € 254,10 (incl.

VAT)

In contrast to individual therapy, coaching is unfortunately not reimbursed by the health insurance company and is not exempt from VAT. We are therefore obliged to charge VAT.

A coaching process starts with a intake interview of 90 minutes. During the intake we discuss how the follow-up process will look like. This means that sessions of 45 or 90 minutes are scheduled for the follow-up process.

The rate for a session of 45 minutes is € 125,– (excluding 21% VAT).
The rate for a session of 90 minutes is € 250,– (excluding 21% VAT).

If your employer would like to offer you this coaching process, we can draw up a plan together.

What is Generalist Basic GGZ and Specialized GGZ?

GGZ (Mental Health Care) is a system with a Generalist Basic GGZ (GB-GGZ) and a Specialized GGZ (S-GGZ).

You can think of the deployment of a psychiatrist, EMDR therapist, etc.

When are you eligible for reimbursement?

To be eligible for insured care from the GB-GGZ or S-GGZ, you must meet a number of conditions:

  • You need a referral from your doctor.
  • There must be an appropriate diagnosis.
  • The coordinating practitioner must be registered in the BIG register.
  • Psychologen Amsterdam must have a quality statute and a practice ‘AGB’ code.

The quality statute of Psychologen Amsterdam can be found on the website and the AGB code is mentioned in the quality charter. An AGB code is a national (unique) code with which the care provider can be recognized.

You must bring your doctor’s referral with you to your first appointment with one of our healthcare professionals. After the intake, the practitioner will draw up a treatment plan and discuss it with you during the next consultation. An indication is also given of the required number of consultations (this number can be expanded during the interim evaluation if necessary). If you agree with the treatment plan, the treatment will be started.

There are certain symptoms that may have a psychological character, but the treatment of these symptoms are not covered by the basic insurance. This is the case if you do not have an ‘appropriate’ diagnosis, such as:

  • psychological symptoms if you do not have (yet) a mental disorder;
  • problems at work, such as burnout or stress;
  • relationship problems;
  • a parent-child relationship problem, abuse, mourning, study problem, identity problem, acculturation problem, religious problem or life phase problem;
  • adjustment disorders;
  • sleep disorder;
  • a phobia, unless it is a situation that often occurs and guidance from the general practice does not help enough or if you are afraid of, for example, blood or injections;
  • sexual dysfunctions, for example erection problems.

Ask your health insurer for the complete overview!

Reimbursement of this care is sometimes eligible via the additional health care insurance (alternative medicine or psychological care supplement). Ask your health insurer.

From 1 January 2022 you will no longer receive reimbursement per package, but for the care actually provided. Although GB-GGZ no longer has packages, profiles are still used when establishing the diagnosis and treatment plan:

Basic GGZ short
Basic GGZ medium
Basic GGZ intensive
Basic GGZ chronic

The applicable profile within GB-GGZ is stated on the invoice. Profiles are not used within S-GGZ.

The note also shows:

  • the duration of the consultation;
  • the type of consultation (diagnosis or treatment);
  • the type of practitioner;
  • the setting (monodisciplinary or multidisciplinary);
  • the amount of the consultation.

Unfortunately, not all health insurers use the rates set by the Nederlandse Zorgautoriteit (NZa). Health insurers increasingly use the average rate for which they have purchased care from contracted care providers and call this the average contracted rate. The rates therefore differ per health insurer.

Restitution package (‘restitutiepolis’) or in-kind package (‘naturapolis’)

With a restitution package, the reimbursement is usually higher than with an in-kind package. The premium for a restitution package is usually slightly higher, but you can choose a care provider yourself, the so-called free choice of care. With an in-kind package , the premium is generally somewhat lower, but you will only receive full reimbursement for care provided by contracted care providers.

In addition, there is a combination package , which is a combination between an in-kind package and a restitution package . For some types of care, a right to care applies (such as with an in-kind package ) and for other types of care, a right to reimbursement (such as with a restitution package).

A few years ago, the NZa tightened up the regulations regarding the names of packages. Packages may only be called a restitution package if they also fully reimburse the care provided by non-contracted care providers (unless the costs are very high). As a result, some packages that were previously restitution packages are now combination packages.

For the exact reimbursement it is best to contact your insurance company or check this link: Vergoedingen 2022 | Contractvrije Psycholoog.

Deductible

The 2022 health insurance has a compulsory deductible of € 385,– per calendar year. This deductible also applies to psychological care, regardless of whether or not the practitioner has contracts with health insurers.

Psychologen Amsterdam does not have contracts with health insurance companies. If you meet the conditions to be eligible for reimbursement, the treatments can be reimbursed by our healthcare professionals (partially 55%-100%).

This means that after the session you can pay the invoice amount by pin (debit card) and then submit the invoice to your health insurer.

Until December 31, 2021 it was only possible to submit your bill to the insurer after the entire healthcare process had been completed (within GB-GGZ) or annually (if the process lasted longer than one year within S-GGZ). From January 1, 2022, a new funding system has been introduced for GGZ and it is possible to declare after each consultation with your health insurer.

An appointment is not without obligation. If you are unable to come to an appointment, we would like you to cancel the appointment as soon as possible so that we can schedule another appointment.

You can do this by e-mail up to 48 hours, 2 working days in advance. If you do not cancel the appointment in time or you do not show up, we are forced to charge the costs.
