About GZ psychologist Jiska Metternich
I am Jiska Metternich, a healthcare psychologist (GZ psychologist) in training to become a psychotherapist.
My Approach
Every person is unique! While there may be overlap in problems, personality traits, and backgrounds, each individual is their own person – just like a fingerprint. I believe it’s important to see and acknowledge that uniqueness in everyone. When someone feels stuck in life and comes to me, I enjoy “puzzling” together their unique characteristics, their challenges, and my professional knowledge to arrive at a solution that helps them move forward. I aim to empower people by supporting them and helping them find their own solutions. By observing, offering feedback, and at times confronting, I hope to help others gain insights into their past, present, inner world, and relationships with others—insights that can help them take the next steps in life.
I am fascinated by the relationships we form with others and the impact they have on us. That’s why system therapy (such as couples therapy, family therapy, and group therapy) is my preferred way of working with people. Relationships are often so central to our lives and can have such a profound effect that, in my opinion, they deserve a much more prominent role in mental healthcare.
Schema therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples also align with this way of working. Additionally, I have completed both the basic and advanced EMDR training.
Professional background and experience
During my psychology studies, I already knew I wanted to become a systemic therapist. After a year in a work experience role at a Youth RIAGG, I started working at an occupational health and safety service and a private practice. It was within that private practice that I was able to complete my training in systemic therapy, after which I began working at MoleMann Mental Health Center. There, I worked with a wide range of issues, always from a systemic perspective. During the six years I spent there, I also completed my healthcare (GZ) psychologist (GZ).
I then moved on to work with individuals with personality disorders at the NPI, where I also specialized in schema therapy. I provided both Dutch- and English-language treatments, in both individual and group settings.
Since early 2025, I have been working at Taytelbaum Psychologists in Amsterdam, where I am also training to become a psychotherapist.
