About system-, relationship- and family therapist Jessica Coppoolse

From an early age, I have been interested in human development and how people develop into the person they are today. Research shows that not only a genetic predisposition, but also the relationships around us form our blueprint. This blueprint teaches us how the world around us works, whether you can trust people, whether you matter, whether others will be there for you when you need support. In other words, whether you have come to see the world as a safe or rather unsafe place.

By relationships, I mean relationships in the broadest sense of the word. Not only the relationship with yourself, but also with your parents, brothers, sisters, friends, romantic relationships, and relationships with (domestic) animals, society and nature. These relationships, or systems, can give you a lot of resilience. We are shaped, molded, strengthened by them, but unfortunately sometimes also harmed. We repeat these patterns in relationships in our adult lives. In love relationships, this is sometimes further enlarged and can cause problems.

When you are not connected with yourself or others, you may experience a deep sense of loneliness. This loneliness is often filled with work or various other forms of distraction. In the conversations with me, attention will be paid to your personal blueprint and we will look at how it affects you in the here and now.

As a therapist, I am empathetic and open-minded but at certain times I can also be confrontational. Humor is an important part of therapy for me. I often hear from clients that I get to the point quickly and that they soon feel comfortable with me. I will make sure you feel seen and heard and that there is enough safety to share your, perhaps painful, story.

Because talking alone is not always enough, I also use creative methods from experiential schema therapy and narrative system therapy during the conversations. This will help you get more into your body and out of your head. I know from experience that this can be very helpful in feeling through difficult emotions and processing difficult events.

Background

I am trained as an Applied Psychologist (bachelor) and Health Scientist (master) and POH-GGZ. I have about five years of work experience and provide individual therapy as well as relationship and family therapy. I have a great affinity for schema therapy, ACT, mindfulness, self-compassion, narrative and Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT).
