About burnout treatment
If you continue to ignore the signs and symptoms of stress and strain, your body and mind can become out of balance and you risk a burnout. Your body becomes exhausted and your energy is gone. Body and mind feel burned out. Restoring balance requires rest and reflection so that you can make the necessary choices. Often this means that things have to change.
Sometimes it is possible to recover with the support of family or friends. In many cases, however, professional help is needed.
At the start of treatment, we focus on restoring your energy balance. We help you regain your sense of energy, learn how to relax well and in a focused way, how to spread your energy throughout the day and how to deal with conflicts. You learn to indicate your limits better, to say no and to express yourself clearly without hurting others.
During therapy, we also explore which factors contributed to the development of your burnout. Risk factors are identified and addressed where possible.
Treatment means that you are willing to examine your behavior and change it where necessary.
Therapies for burnout
A psychologist can use different forms of therapy during the treatment process. The therapies most often used for burnout are cognitive behavioral therapy and solution-focused therapy. Body-oriented therapy, such as breathing exercises, and mindfulness can also be used as supportive methods.
Cognitive behavioral therapy
In cognitive behavioral therapy, we look at and work on the thoughts and behaviors that support and maintain your feelings of stress and burnout. By learning to react differently, your thoughts, feelings and behavior can gradually change.
Solution-focused therapy
Solution-focused therapy is a form of therapy that addresses burnout symptoms by focusing on your strengths and skills. It is a concrete and goal-oriented approach. Instead of focusing mainly on the problem, we work together to find practical solutions.
Body-oriented therapy
Body-oriented therapy is a form of therapy in which the body plays a central role. In addition to conversations, this type of therapy may use massage techniques, body-focused exercises, breathing techniques and mindfulness exercises.
Sometimes one type of therapy is used, but a combination of different therapies can also be very effective. At the start of treatment, you and your therapist discuss which form of therapy suits you and your symptoms best, and what feels comfortable for you. In this way, the treatment is tailored to your situation, so that you feel seen, heard and helped.
